Northern Cyprus, 20th of July 2008, Peace and Freedom Day Celebrations in the TRNC

North Cyprus Celebrations and Event being held - 20th of July 2008 - Peace and Freedom Day celebrations, TRNC

Celebrations begin with a 21 gun-salute at 12 noon when a speech to the nation by President Mehmet Ali Talat will be broadcast on Bayrak Radio & Television.

At this years celebration Turkey is being represented by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan together with a high level delegation.

As in past years various events and ceremonies will be held at Lefkosa & other large towns around the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to mark this anniversary.

The ceremonies mark the 34th year of the Turkish Peace Operation in Cyprus and will climax on Sunday.

An official ceremony, the first of the day will be held at the Boğaz Martyrdom where martyrs will be commemorated.

There will be the laying of wreaths at the Martrys’ and Atatürk Monuments.

Another wreath laying ceremony will take place at the tomb of Doctor Fazıl Küçük- the late leader of the Turkish Cypriot People.

The Turkish Air Force’s supersonic aerobatics team will also be performing in the TRNC as part of the celebrations on Sunday.

The Gelibolu Frigate from the Turkish Navy is docked in the Girne Port and will be open to public to allow visits during its stay.
